‘Swimming Suffragettes’ program in Marquette

MARQUETTE — Marquette Regional History Center and League of Women Voters will present “Swimming Suffragettes: The Evolution and Revolution in Women’s Bathing Suits” on Wednesday, April 22, at the history center, 145 W. Spring St. in Marquette.

The event will begin with refreshments and social at 5:30 p.m. Eastern time, followed by the presentation at 6:15 p.m.

What’s the connection between bathing suits and women’s right to vote? Carrie Moon-Dupree, director of development for the League of Women Voters of Michigan, showcases her wonderful collection of vintage to modern swimwear, tracing the style changes as a mirror of the changing history of women’s rights in the United States.

This fundraiser for the League of Women Voters of Marquette County will support its efforts to provide non-partisan voter education, voter registration and candidate forums.
