Human remains found after Stephenson fire

STEPHENSON — Human remains were recovered Thursday after a structure fire early Wednesday in Stephenson.

Menominee County Sheriff’s deputies and firefighters were called about 4 a.m. Wednesday to a home on Robert Street in Stephenson.

While no one was found in the home during firefighting efforts, one resident — a 38-year-old Stephenson man — remained unaccounted for, Sheriff Darrin Kudwa said.

The remains were located in the debris Thursday. The Michigan State Police Fire Investigator and Canine Team assisted in the search.

Additional details will be released after positive identification is made and family members notified, according to the sheriff’s office.

The fire remains under investigation. Anyone with information related to the incident is asked to contact the Menominee County Sheriff’s Office at 906-863-4441.
