Top students in North Dickinson’s Class of 2026

Aubrey Applekamp
FELCH TOWNSHIP — The North Dickinson County School District has announced two valedictorians and a salutatorian for the graduating Class of 2026.
They are —
— Aubrey Applekamp of Channing, the daughter of Jarvis and Angela Applekamp, is co-valedictorian with a 4.0 grade-point average.
Applekamp participated in volleyball and track all four years and basketball her first three years. Her athletic achievements include Interscholastic Track Coaches Association Honor Award Division 3 in the high jump and 3200m and 1600m relays; Team Academic All State team in 2023; volleyball Division 4 First Team special mention in 2024; most valuable player in track as a junior; as a senior, was volleyball team captain in 2025 and made All-Region Team, All-Conference 2nd team, Academic All State Team, Individual Academic All State and American Volleyball Coaches Association Best and Brightest Team.
Extracurricular activities and honors include student council all four years; class vice-president as a freshman and sophomore and class president her junior and senior year; Students Aiding the Population, or SAP, three years, the last as president; National Honor Society; Society of Women Engineers Certificate of Merit, Michigan Technological University; first place, biomedical debate, Health Occupation Student of America; and Outstanding Student Award for education at the Dickinson-Iron Intermediate School District Career and Technological Education Center.

Lucas Steinbrecher
Outside of school, Applekamp has taken Travel for Teens service trips to Costa Rica and Belize; done mission trips to the Dominican Republic and Mexico; and participates in Bible study and youth groups. She also worked at Way Dam Resort for three years and is currently a cashier/stocker at Mrs. Deal’s and a hostess at Greenleaf Sports Bar & Grill.
Applekamp plans to major in social work at Northern Michigan University.
— Lucas Steinbrecher of Felch Township, the son of Chad and Rebecca Steinbrecher, is co-valedictorian with a 4.0 GPA.
Steinbrecher participated in basketball his first three years of high school and football and golf as a freshman.
Extracurricular activities and honors include class secretary all four years; student council all four years; SAP three years; National Honor Society; and first place, biomedical debate, Health Occupation Student of America his junior year.

Brady Jungwirth
Outside of school, Steinbrecher participated in confirmation class and youth group, was a volunteer filmer and worked at the Steinbrecher Potato Farm.
Steinbrecher plans to major in psychology at Northern Michigan University.
— Brady Jungwirth of Iron Mountain, son of Jon and Angie Jungwirth, is class salutatorian with a 3.99 GPA.
Jungwirth was a four-sport athlete all four years of high school: football, basketball, baseball and golf. In football, he was team captain as a junior and senior, was team MVP his junior year, Offensive Conference Player of the Year as a junior and senior, defensive first team as a junior, All-Region and All State quarterback as a senior and a Michigan High School Football Coaches Association Scholar Athlete selection. In basketball, he was a team captain his junior and senior year, conference honorable mention as sophomore and junior, all-U.P. honorable mention as a junior and senior and First Team All-Conference as a senior. In baseball, he was team captain the first three years, offensive MVP his freshman and junior year, All-Conference honorable mention as a freshman, All-Conference First Team as a sophomore and junior and on the All-Region Team as a junior; his senior season is still in progress.
Extracurricular activities and honors include class president as a freshman and sophomore, class vice president as a junior and senior, on student council all four years, National Honor Society member, participated in SAP, received a Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizens Award and was a Michigan High School Athletic Association Scholar Athlete finalist.
Outside of school, Jungwirth is a youth group member at Zion Lutheran Church, where he also once a month is a greeter and server at coffee hour; participated in a mission trip to North Carolina to help rebuild homes after Hurricane Helene; and was a coach for Great 8 Winter Games in 2023 and 2024.
His work experience includes a cart attendant at Timberstone Golf Course in 2024, groundsperson/lawn care for Felch Township in 2025 and summer farm/manual work at Steinbrecher Potato Farm since 2021.
Jungwirth plans to major in K-12 physical education and math at Concordia University in Wisconsin.
Graduation ceremonies are set for this evening at North Dickinson County School, W6588 M-69 in Felch Township.
