IRON MOUNTAIN — Golfers will have the chance to support a lasting tribute to area veterans while enjoying a day on the links during the 11th-annual U.P. Veterans War Memorial and Park Golf Scramble fundraiser set for Saturday, June 13, at Oak Crest Golf Course.

Registration and check-in for the four-person scramble will run from 7 to 8:45 a.m. The event is limited to 30 teams, or 120 players, with individual golfers welcome and assigned to a team.

The entry fee is $80 per player and includes dinner.

Participants also can take part in hole-in-one contests, 50-50 drawings and door prize giveaways. Non-alcoholic beverages will be provided throughout the event.

Proceeds from the fundraiser will support ongoing expansion projects and general maintenance at the U.P. Veterans War Memorial and Park atop Pine Mountain.

Volunteer Dennis Larson, who helped establish the memorial in 2006 alongside his wife, Barb, and Robert and Lori Massicotte, said the organization is continuing to seek both hole and team sponsors. Businesses and individuals also may share sponsorship of a hole.

Major sponsors for this year’s event are Trident Maritime Systems and St. George Glass & Window.

Checks payable to the U.P. Veterans Memorial may be mailed to Barb Larson, W8007 U.S. 2/141, Lot 383, Iron Mountain, MI 49801. Participants should include their name, phone number and email address, along with whether a golf cart will be needed the day of the event.
