Daily News seeks entries for its Ugly Chair Contest

The winner of The Daily News’ Ugly Chair Contest will get a $100 gift certificate from local furniture store Slumberland to perhaps help pay for an upgrade, like the recliner shown here. Deadline to enter the contest has been extended to Thursday. (Marguerite Lanthier/Daily News photo)

Have a recliner that’s been repaired with duct tape three times? An easy chair with springs poking through the cushions? The favorite seat Dad refuses to give up, even though it may have seen better decades?

It could be a contender in The Daily News’ Ugly Chair Contest.

This contest invites area residents to put that well-worn — yet perhaps still beloved — piece of furniture up against others for the public to pick which is in the worst shape.

“One of the things I enjoy most as publisher is finding fun ways to keep our newspaper connected to the community,” said Daily News Publisher Denise Lind. “This contest gives our readers a chance to share a laugh, tell a story and maybe even win a Father’s Day gift that Dad will actually use.”

But with Father’s Day just around the corner, time is running out to enter, though the deadline has been extended to Thursday.

The winner of the Ugly Chair Contest will receive a $100 gift certificate from local furniture store Slumberland.

The contest is not just looking for ugly but for character. Tell why the chair is special. How long has it been in the family? What adventures has it survived? Sometimes the ugliest chairs have the best stories behind them.

Entering is easy — email a photo of the chair, along with your name and a brief description to Lind to dlind@ironmountaindailynews.com.

The Daily News will then feature selected entries Saturday and let readers weigh in on which ones they like for the title.

So, take a look around your living room, basement, garage, cabin or man cave. Who knows? That ugly chair could lead to a beautiful Father’s Day gift.

Starting at $4.00/week.
