Fatal dirt bike crash in Schoolcraft County
GERMFASK TOWNSHIP — A Germfask man died Sunday night after the dirt bike he was on crashed into a parked pickup truck on M-77 in Schoolcraft County.
Michigan State Police troopers from the Manistique post were sent about 10:50 p.m. Sunday to M-77 near Grant Road in Germfask Township, according to a news release.
Their preliminary investigation indicated a 33-year-old Germfask man was operating a dirt bike on M-77 when he struck a legally parked pickup truck on the shoulder of the roadway.
Despite efforts by two citizens, responding troopers and EMS personnel, the man was pronounced dead while being transported to the hospital, the news release states.
The rider was wearing a helmet while operating the off-road bike. Alcohol is believed to have been a contributing factor in the crash. The incident remains under investigation.
