suspect accused of fleeing the alleged scene of a Wednesday night shooting in Marquette was arrested after a police pursuit ended in a fiery crash at the Krist gas station on U.S. 41 in Negaunee, authorities said.

The incident began at approximately 9:14 p.m. Wednesday when officers with the Marquette Police Department responded to 616 W. Baraga Ave. Apt. 1 following a 911 call reporting a disturbance involving multiple people.

Upon arrival, officers found one man with apparent gunshot wounds inside the apartment, according to a news release. A second man was also located in the apartment with minor injuries.

Details regarding the alleged shooting remain under investigation. However, a suspect description was issued to local law enforcement agencies requesting assistance in locating an individual who reportedly fled the scene.

The adult male subject was soon located by a MSP trooper and sergeant from the Negaunee Post. Both officers were driving fully marked patrol vehicles and attempted a traffic stop, but the suspect fled, leading authorities on a pursuit, the news release stated.

The pursuit ended when the suspect’s vehicle crashed into the fuel pumps at the Krist gas station at 341 U.S. 41 in Negaunee. The impact sparked a large fire at the gas station.

Troopers were able to safely take the suspect into custody. Authorities reported that no members of the public or law enforcement personnel were injured in either the crash or the resulting fire.

The two injured men and the suspect were transported to UPHS-Marquette for treatment. The suspect was evaluated for reported minor injuries.

Following medical clearance, the suspect was expected to be lodged in the Marquette County Jail on multiple felony charges.

According to the Marquette Police Department, the individuals involved were known to one another, and the incident is believed to be isolated.

Marquette Police Department and the Marquette County Prosecutor’s Office continue to investigate.
