Float on down: Amberg to host Ducky Day on Saturday

AMBERG, Wis. -- The Amberg Parks and Recreation Committee will host the third-annual Ducky Day from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
The event at the Amberg ball diamond will feature food, refreshments, games, raffles and, of course, ducks.
“It’s a fun event for the family, great way to socialize,” said Tilly Wollenberg, chair of the committee.
Bounce houses will be available for the children, if the weather cooperates. The event features about 30 raffle baskets and a number of street vendors. There will be a meat raffle with nine rounds and more than 30 pieces of meat including a few lobster tails. Food and refreshments will be available.
New this year is a cornhole tournament sponsored by the Ranger City Riders Snowmobile/ATV/UTV Club and American Legion Post 428. Registration starts at 11 a.m. with competition kicking off at noon. The proceeds will be divided, with 50% going to the ballpark improvements and 50% to the winners.
A highlight is the Duck Race. Ducks can be purchased at the event and at area businesses.
At about 2:30 p.m., 2,000 weighted ducks will make the journey down the Pike River at the Veterans Park to reach the finish line at Mosquito Park on County Road V, where volunteers will corral them using nets and floats. There will be 24 chances to win, with the top prize of $500.
The annual event began about 40 years ago as a fundaiser for the fire department. After a number of years it was discontinued. The parks and recreation committee decided to restart the event three years ago. All proceeds go to improvements at the ball diamond.
Following the event, there will be live music featuring Jimi Anderson at the Amberg Pub starting at 6 p.m.
