Food, Fun and Fitness
In the first week of this year’s Food, Fun and Fitness, participants had a galaxy of fun planting chives, creating sun catchers, learning about the phases of the moon with Oreos, trying “moon squirters” (cherry tomatoes), fighting aliens, and more. They also had a visit from Garrett Vucenic, Florence County’s aquatic invasive species technician, who served as a guest speaker. He played a game called “Habitat Heist,” with participants, spreading awareness about the dangers of invasive species. From left are Maya Johnson, Samuel Johnson, Gunnar Fayas and Gage Fayas. Food, Fun and Fitness is a summer day camp for children entering first through fifth grades, run by the University of Wisconsin-Extension Florence County and the School District of Florence County. Mondays and Wednesdays are at Florence County Elementary School, while Tuesdays and Thursdays are at the Northeast Wisconsin Technical College site in Aurora; students may only be enrolled in one location.
