Heat advisory in effect for region, severe storms possible
A heat advisory has been issued locally through 7 p.m. today as hot weather and high humidity may cause heat illnesses, the National Weather Service said.
Today’s predicted high at Iron Mountain is 95 degrees, with a heat index value up to 105 degrees.
“Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room if possible, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors,” NWS forecasters said.
Hot weather is expected to persist through the week, with a high of 92 both Wednesday and Thursday, and 86 degrees on Friday.
Along with the heat, a volatile weather pattern will linger. There is a chance of showers and possibly severe thunderstorms today and tonight, following a similar warning Monday night.
There is a chance of thunderstorms as well on Wednesday and Friday.
The forecast for Independence Day on Saturday is a high of 84 with a chance of showers but otherwise mostly sunny.
