Heat wave in forecast ahead of July 4

Highs in the low 80s are predicted this weekend, but the forecast will take a much hotter turn through next week, according to the National Weather Service.

For the Iron Mountain area, NWS predicts a high of 91 on Monday, 97 on Tuesday, 95 on Wednesday, 93 on Thursday and 90 on Friday.

For Independence Day on Saturday, AccuWeather predicts a high of 89 with a chance of showers.

Overnight lows next week are expected to range near 70.

There’s a good chance of showers and possibly a thunderstorm Sunday night before the heat wave arrives. Showers are also possible during much of next week, according to NWS.

“A strong front could bring damaging winds and brief downpours ahead of the July Fourth holiday weekend from parts of the Great Lakes to the Northeast,” said AccuWeather meteorologist Chad Merrill.

While the heat dome will ease up during the second week in July, temperatures will remain a few degrees above the historical average in much of the Plains and the Midwest, Merrill said.

Starting at $4.00/week.
