Lane closures for UP bridge inspections to start Friday

HOUGHTON — Crews from the Michigan Department of Transportation will be performing routine bridge inspections on structures in the Upper Peninsula beginning Friday and running through June 11.

The inspections will require intermittent closures, MDOT said.

The following closures are scheduled for the inspections. The work is weather-dependent:

Friday: The M-26 bridge over the Eagle River will have lane closures under flag control from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Saturday: The M-64/M-38 bridge over the Ontonagon River and River Road will have shared-use path closures from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and shoulder closures from 2 to 4 p.m.

Monday: The M-38 bridge over the Firesteel River will have lane closures under flag control from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Tuesday: The U.S. 45 bridge over the East Branch of the Ontonagon River will have lane closures under flag control from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Wednesday: The M-28 bridge over the Ontonagon River will have lane closures under flag control from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Thursday, June 11: The U.S. 41 bridge over the Sturgeon River will have lane closures under flag control from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. 

These inspections will help ensure continued safe and reliable operation of the bridges, MDOT said.
