IRON MOUNTAIN — Street closures for Iron Mountain’s Gus Macker tournament will depart slightly from previous years as the Dream Court will move off Carpenter Avenue to Hughitt Street just north of the Imagination Factory Community Center.
As approved by the city council earlier, Carpenter Avenue will be closed from the south right-of-way line of Ludington Street to the north right-of-way line of West C Street from 5 a.m. Friday, Aug. 14, to 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 16.
Other closures required further discussion to accommodate the Dream Court change before the council approved them Monday. They include:
— Hughitt Street, from the east right-of-way of Stockbridge Avenue, east to the railroad track.
— West A Street, from the east right-of-way of Prospect Avenue, east to the railroad track.
— West B Street, from the driveway of Main Street Pizza, east to the west end of the Kingsley North parking lot.
— Prospect Avenue from the north right-of-way of West A Street to 30 feet south of the alley between Hughitt Street and Ludington Street.
Traffic patterns will change as Prospect — between West B and West A — is converted to a northbound one-way instead of the current southbound one-way. This change will provide access to St. Mary & St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Iron Mountain High School parking lot, City Manager Jordan Stanchina explained.
Also, West B between Prospect and Main Street Pizza will become a two-way street to allow access to the parking lot south of the high school gymnasium.
The Dream Court is the site of games where young players are spotlighted with special introductions, commentary and music. Proceeds from the tournament benefit the Imagination Factory Community Center, which had its grand opening in May.
