Conditions stay ripe for severe thunderstorms

Weather forecasters warned of a chance of severe thunderstorms today, after a similar warning Tuesday night as hot and humid conditions continue to grip the region.

At 8 p.m. Tuesday, We Energies reported more than 500 electrical customers out of service in Dickinson County, mainly in the Vulcan area.

Some Facebook posts indicated trees down in the Vulcan-Loretto-Waucedah area, but that could not be confirmed.

Wisconsin Public Service listed more than 2,000 outages across northeastern Wisconsin, including more than 150 in the Pembine and Dunbar areas.

Thunderstorms today could bring hail and damaging winds and AccuWeather warned of possible isolated tornadoes. The chance of precipitation was 60% today and 90% tonight, according to the National Weather Service.

The high temperature in Iron Mountain on Tuesday was 94 degrees.

Today’s predicted high is 90, with a low of 67 tonight.

There is only a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms Thursday, with a high near 89, but the possibility of thunderstorms heightens on Friday, with a high near 85.

The forecast for Independence Day on Saturday calls for a chance of showers after 1 p.m. but otherwise mostly sunny, with a high near 82.
