IRON MOUNTAIN -- The Iron Mountain Board of Education approved several hirings this week, including Renee Lindholm as assistant principal for grades 6-12 and Jamie Johnston as school nurse.
Kailee Celello was also hired as early kindergarten teacher, with a start date of Aug. 1.
They are all contingent on a clear state and FBI criminal record, in accordance with Public Act 189.
During roundtable discussion, board member Jim Carollo made note of the late William Revord's dedication to the school and community. Board member Lisa Carollo said she would like the district to create a scholarship in his honor.
Revord, who passed away on July 1, retired as a lieutenant in the Iron Mountain Police Department and also served on the school board and Iron Mountain City Council.
In other business, the board:
-- Accepted letters of resignation from Carly Lambert and Bethany Merrill as girls high school soccer coaches. This past spring the school was unable to field a girls soccer team. It will be reexamined if there are enough numbers for a team in the future.
-- Supported the Iron Mountain-Kingsford Community Schools' recommendation to hire Rick Faust as a full-time alternative education teacher for the community school.
-- Will look into changing an agreement that allows Superintendent Jerry Sardina to work as a shared administrator with the Stephenson School District, with possible savings to the Iron Mountain district.
-- Will look to hire someone at the fourth and fifth grade building to oversee entry to the building and greet students, parents and the public. The board would like to find someone who also has a financial background so that person can handle some financial duties.
