Isle Royale campground to be closed
HOUGHTON – Due to increased human-wildlife interactions and food storage concerns, Duncan Narrows campground will be closed starting Monday at 10 a.m. Eastern time, the Isle Royale National Park announced Wednesday.
The campground will re-open at 3 p.m. Eastern time Wednesday. The closure will be strictly signed and monitored by park officials.
In response to wolves accessing human food and garbage in and around Rock Harbor and campgrounds located on the east end of the island, new food storage guidelines are in effect to ensure the safety of visitors and wildlife, the Isle Royale NPS website states.
