Marinette County Fair set for Aug. 27-30 in Wausaukee

WAUSAUKEE, Wis. -- The 98th-annual Marinette County Fair returns at the end of August, promising a variety of entertainment and agricultural experiences in its four-day run.

The fair is set for Aug. 27-30 at the fairgrounds in Wausaukee. Tickets are $15 for a weekend pass, $12 in advance or $5 daily. Admission Sunday will be only $2.

There will be shows daily from Wildlife Adventure Center, TA-DA Robots and Miller & Mike. Wildlife Adventure Center features interactive animal exhibits and shows for all ages. TA-DA Robots are life-sized, radio-controlled characters that appear to listen and respond to audiences. Miller & Mike, an interactive comedy juggling show and strolling entertainment, will perform at 5:30, 7 and 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27; 3:30, 5:30 and 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28; 12:30, 2:30 and 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29; and 12:30, 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 30.

The exhibit building will be open from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. The vendor building is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

A flag presentation will take place at 12:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28, in the horse arena to officially open the fair.

Judging events will take place throughout the fair. Beef, rabbit and goat judging will be on Thursday, at 10:30 a.m. and 2 and 3 p.m., respectively. Friday will have swine judging beginning at 8 a.m., poultry judging at 10 a.m. and sheep judging at 10:30 a.m. The youth livestock auction is set for 7 p.m. Friday. Dairy judging will start at 8:30 a.m. Saturday.

This year, the fair at 4 p.m. Saturday will host a Beyond the Blue Ribbon swine show, where county residents with special needs ages 8 to 21 will show a pig with mentor(s) in the show arena.

The annual livestock costume contest, which begins at 6 p.m. Saturday, should offer an array of creative participants.

Carnival rides open at 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27. Wristbands will be $30 for 4 to 10 p.m. Rides open at 2 p.m. Friday and at noon on Saturday and Sunday. Wristbands on Friday are $25 for riding from 2 to 5 p.m. or $30 for 6 to 10 p.m. No wristbands will be sold for Saturday. Wristband will be available for $25 from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.

There will be music each day, starting with a DJ from 7 to 11 p.m. Thursday. Thunder Rose of northern Wisconsin will perform acoustic country music from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, followed by the rock band Fire on High of the Green Bay, Wis., area starting at 8 p.m. The northern Wisconsin duo Seventh Day performs acoustic variety music from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, followed by the acoustic duo Just About Right of northern Wisconsin from 4 to 7 p.m. The variety rock band Daze 2 Nights of the Green Bay, Wis., area caps off the evening starting at 8 p.m. On Sunday, the LIVEwire polka band from northern Wisconsin plays from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Grandstand events will be take place each day. Thursday will feature a mini rod pull at 6 p.m. The farm tractor pull takes place at 6:30 p.m. Friday. Saturday will have the demolition derby at 1 p.m. and the truck pull at 7 p.m. The horse pull starts at 10:30 a.m. Sunday. Grandstand events are free with fair admission Thursday and Sunday; Friday is $5 for ages 6 and older; Saturday is $5 for ages 6 to 12 and $8 for ages 13 and older.

A horse show will take place at 9:30 a.m. Friday and the horse speed show will begin at 12:30 p.m. Saturday. The horse fun day will be 8 a.m. to noon Sunday.

Sunday will also have bingo starting at 11 a.m. and the Ag Olympics at 11:30 a.m. Fair raffle drawings will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday. Trophies and awards will be presented at 3 p.m. in the show barn, and auction animals will be released at 4 p.m. The fair closes at 5 p.m.
