One man dead, another injured in Luce County stabbing Sunday

NEWBERRY -- A 21-year-old Newberry man is in custody after a stabbing Sunday night that left one man dead and another injured.

Luce County Sheriff's deputies were called to the 300 block of East John Street in Newberry about 7:15 p.m. Sunday, where they found a 40-year-old male in the yard with multiple stab wounds, according to a news release from the office. Despite emergency efforts, he was pronounced dead at the site.

A 47-year-old male at the same location was transported to a local hospital with injuries that were not considered life threatening, the news release states.

The 21-year-old had remained at the site and was taken into custody without incident, according to the Luce County Sheriff's news release.

The investigation remains active and ongoing, the sheriff's office stated, adding that further details, including the identities of those involved, will be withheld pending family notification and formal arraignment.
