IRON MOUNTAIN -- The 14th-annual Saturday in the Park returns Friday and Saturday with a full and diverse lineup of music and activities in City Park.
"We're excited this year," said Caroline Sullivan, one of the organizers of the event that raises money for City Park. "We have a great line up."
Admission for the two-day event is $15 for adults and free for ages 12 and younger.
Some of the funds helped purchase equipment for the dog park this year, Sullivan said, adding that one of the larger pieces of playground equipment will need to be replaced in the next few years. They also hope to replace the pond in the deer park area with a heated water trough as some point.
Gates open at 4:30 p.m. Friday. The duo of Jim Counter and Winston Lawson will join forces to present a variety of acoustic songs from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Polar Blues Band brings some high-energy rhythm and blues to their headlining set from 8 to 11 p.m.
Saturday, the Upper Peninsula based duo A Place to Land will make its debut from 2 to 5:30 p.m. with a varied set list featuring everything from classic country to '70s rock and some bluegrass.
Todd Wangerin Experience will perform indie and alternative pop/rock music from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday. The headliner will be Oz, closing out the event from 8 to 11 p.m. with its popular blend of classic rock.
In addition to music, the event features free activities for children, including bounce houses, an obstacle course and slide. Due to unforeseen circumstances, the mechanical bull will not be available this year.
The Iron Mountain Fire Department will also have The Smoke House on site for young participants.
Food will be available from food trucks Mama Manga and Sliced and Stacked. A number of refreshments will be for sale as well. Organizers will sell their own concessions in the large cabin, offering hot dogs, nachos, soft pretzels, chips and snow cones. Last year they used a portion of the proceeds to purchase equipment from the former Ice Cream Station. This is the second year selling these items, so Sullivan hopes sales increase.
The committee will also conduct 50-50 drawings throughout the two-day event. An ATM will be on site.
Costs have increased since COVID-19, but they are starting to get more donations to help offset costs -- $12,000 from $10,500, she said. Saturday in the Park is made possible through the generous support of LiUNA Local 1329 and Rize Up.
Those interested in volunteering can contact Sullivan through the Saturday in the Park, Iron Mountain Facebook page.
The event will continue rain or shine this weekend. Organizers remind attendees that no carry-ins are permitted, but guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and enjoy the weekend festivities.
Parking is available in the park and surrounding streets. They remind those who park on A or B streets to make sure they park in the direction of traffic flow.
