Two dogs treated after IM house fire

IRON MOUNTAIN — Firefighters removed two dogs from a house fire Sunday night at 107 Fourth St. in Iron Mountain, initiating resuscitation before transferring care of the dogs to Iron Mountain Police Department and Integrity Care EMS, said Chad Hedmark, deputy director of fire services.

Iron Mountain Fire Department arrived in under three minutes after being dispatched to the fire at 9:01 p.m., Hedmark said in a news release. Firefighters found heavy smoke showing from the rear of the home, with one crew making entry into the first floor from the front to begin extinguishment and search efforts.

“While extinguishment was taking place, IMFD personnel found and removed two dogs from the structure,” Hedmark said.

Crews continued to overhaul the first and second floor of the structure to ensure no fire conditions remained, he said.

IMFD responded initially with an engine and four firefighters. After a recall of off-duty personnel an additional six firefighters, an engine, and a utility pickup arrived as well. Assisting agencies included the Iron Mountain Police Department, and DTE. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
