A look at area school calendars for 2026-27

Several area districts will start the 2026-27 school year next week, with a few having open houses this week.

Of note: The usual "Deer Day" some Michigan districts schedule for the Nov. 15 opening of gun deer season in the state does not appear on calendars this year because it falls on a Sunday.

Also this school year, Spring Break for most area schools again will include Good Friday and Easter.

Some other details from area school calendars include:

MICHIGAN

NORTH DICKINSON COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT

FELCH TOWNSHIP -- North Dickinson County students will begin the 2026-27 school year Tuesday, Aug. 25.

An open house is set for 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the school on M-69 in Felch Township.

Classes will not meet Sept. 4 until after Labor Day on Monday, Sept. 7.

Students will not have classes Sept. 30, Oct. 28, Feb. 15 and April 28 for staff professional development; and will be dismissed at 12:45 p.m. Oct. 21 for parent-teachers conference later that day.

Other significant days off include Thanksgiving Break Nov. 26-27, Holiday Break from Dec. 21 through Jan. 1 and Spring Break from March 22 through 29.

Graduation for seniors is set for May 21.

Classes will not meet for Memorial Day on May 31.

The final day of classes is June 4.

WEST IRON COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT

IRON RIVER -- The first day of classes for students is set for Tuesday, Aug. 25.

An elementary open house has been set for Monday.

Labor Day break will be Sept. 4-7.

Classes will not meet Sept. 30 for professional development and Feb. 12 and 15 for a mid-winter break. Students will have half days on Oct. 15, Oct. 29 for parent-teacher conferences, Nov. 6, Dec. 7, Dec. 18, Jan. 28, Feb. 11, March 10, April 20 and May 17.

School will not be in session Nov. 25-27 for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Christmas break will be Dec. 21 through Jan. 1.

Spring break is from March 22-29.

Graduation will be May 21.

No classes will be held May 31 for Memorial Day.

The final day for Wykon students for the 2026-2027 school year is June 3, which will be a half day.

BREITUNG TOWNSHIP SCHOOL DISTRICT

KINGSFORD -- Students will report for the first day of class Wednesday, Aug. 26.

Breitung Township district students will be out Sept. 4-7 for Labor Day.

There also will be no school Sept. 30, Feb. 15, March 12 and May 7 for professional days. Early dismissal days have been scheduled for Oct. 21, Nov. 5 and Jan. 15.

The district will allow students to be off Monday, Nov. 16, for the second day of firearm deer season.

Other days off include Nov. 26-27 for Thanksgiving, with early dismissal Nov. 25; winter break Dec. 21 through Jan. 1; and a midwinter break day Feb. 22.

Spring Break will be March 19-29, with early dismissal March 18.

Kingsford High School graduation is set for May 29.

No classes will be held May 25 for Memorial Day.

The last day of classes for the 2026-2027 school year is June 4, with early dismissal.

BISHOP BARAGA CATHOLIC SCHOOL

IRON MOUNTAIN -- The first day of classes for students is set for Wednesday, Aug. 26.

Bishop Baraga will have a preschool/pre-K open house from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today, then a Back-to-School Bash from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Monday.

Labor Day break will be Sept. 4-7.

Students will have no school Sept. 30 and 11 a.m. dismissal Oct. 21, Jan. 15, Feb. 15, March 12 and May 7 for teacher professional development. Early dismissal also is set for Nov. 5 for parent-teacher conferences.

School will not be in session Nov. 26-27 for Thanksgiving, with early dismissal Nov. 25.

Christmas break will be Dec. 21 through Jan 1.

Feb. 22 will have no classes for a mid-winter break.

Spring break is March 19-29, with early dismissal March 18.

The last day for eighth-grade students will be May 20, with graduation that day.

The final day of classes for other students will be May 28, with dismissal at 10 a.m.

NORWAY-VULCAN AREA SCHOOLS

NORWAY -- The first day of classes for Norway-Vulcan Area Schools will be Wednesday, Aug. 26.

An open house is set for 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Labor Day break is Sept. 4-7.

Classes will be out Sept. 30, Oct. 30, Jan. 22 and March 19 for teacher in-service days, plus early dismissals Sept. 25 and Dec. 11.

Thanksgiving break will be Nov. 26 and 27, with early dismissal Nov. 25. Winter break is set for Dec. 23 through Jan. 4.

Spring break will be March 22-29.

Graduation for seniors takes place May 28.

May 28 also is the last day of classes for students and will be a half-day.

HOLY SPIRIT CATHOLIC SCHOOL

NORWAY -- The first day of classes for students is set for Wednesday, Aug. 26.

An open house will take place from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

Labor Day break will be Sept. 4-7.

There also will be no school Sept. 30, Oct. 23, Nov. 20 and March -- plus early dismissal Sept. 25, Dec. 11, Jan. 16 and March 13 -- for staff professional days. Students will be dismissed early Nov. 6 for parent-teacher conferences.

School will not be in session Nov. 26-27 for Thanksgiving.

Christmas break will be Dec. 23 through Jan 1.

Spring break is March 22-29.

Eighth-grade graduation will be May 21, which also will be their final day of school.

The final day for all students will be May 28.

IRON MOUNTAIN PUBLIC SCHOOLS DISTRICT

IRON MOUNTAIN -- Iron Mountain Public Schools will come back into session Monday, Aug. 31.

Classes will break for Labor Day from Sept. 4-7.

Classes also will not meet on Sept. 30, Nov. 16, March 12 and April 16 for professional days. Nov. 5 will be a half day for parent-teachers conferences, with early dismissals set for May 5 as well.

Nov. 25 will be a half-day and classes will be out through Nov. 27 for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Winter break is set for Dec. 21 through Jan. 1.

School also will be closed Feb. 15 for a mid-winter break.

Spring break will be March 22-26.

Graduation is set for May 28.

School will be closed May 31 for Memorial Day.

The last day of class for the 2026-2027 school year is June 4 and it will be a half day.

FOREST PARK SCHOOL DISTRICT

CRYSTAL FALLS -- Students will begin classes Monday, Aug. 31.

The district will have an open house and orientation night Thursday, Aug. 27, from 4 to 6 p.m. for elementary students, 6 to 7 p.m. for sixth grade and new middle school students and 7 to 8 p.m. for ninth graders and new high school students.

School will not be in session Sept. 4-7 for Labor Day.

There also will be no school Sept. 30, Nov. 24, Feb. 12 and May 17 for professional development. Half-days have been set for Nov. 23 and March 18 for parent-teacher conferences. Half-days also have been set for March 19 and May 28.

Thanksgiving break will be Nov. 25-27.

Holiday break is set to begin Dec. 21, then extend through Jan. 1.

Feb. 15 will be a winter break day.

Spring Break will be March 22-29.

Graduation ceremonies for 2027 seniors are planned for May 29.

Classes will not meet May 31 for Memorial Day.

The final day for students and teachers will be a half-day June 8.

NORTH CENTRAL AREA SCHOOLS

POWERS -- Students will start school Monday, Aug. 31.

An open house will take place from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, with visits to classrooms and teachers from 3 to 4 p.m. and ninth-grade orientation in the high school gymnasium at 3:30 p.m.

Labor Day break will be Sept. 4-7.

Classes will not be in session Sept. 30, Oct. 23 and Feb. 22 for staff professional development.

Classes will dismiss at noon Oct. 30, Nov. 4, Jan. 15, Feb. 12, April 23 and May 7.

School will be out Nov. 25-27 for Thanksgiving break.

Winter break is set to start Dec. 21 and extend through Jan. 1.

School will be out for Good Friday on March 26 and then Spring Break from March 29 through April 2.

Graduation will be 6 p.m. May 28.

No classes will take place May 31 for Memorial Day.

The final day of classes for the 2026-2027 school year is June 4 and will be only a half day.

WISCONSIN

SCHOOL DISTRICT OF NIAGARA

NIAGARA, Wis. -- The first day of school for Niagara is Tuesday, Sept. 1.

An open house will take place from 5 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26.

Oct. 22 and Feb. 11 will have early dismissal for parent-teacher conferences and there will be no classes Oct. 23, Jan. 15 and Feb. 12 for staff development.

Thanksgiving break is set for Nov. 25-27. Winter break will be Dec. 23 through Jan. 1.

Spring break will be March 22-29.

Graduation ceremonies for Niagara seniors will take place May 14.

The final day of classes is May 28.

SCHOOL DISTRICT OF FLORENCE COUNTY

FLORENCE, Wis. -- The first day of classes for the Florence County district will be Tuesday, Sept. 1.

School will be out Sept. 7 for Labor Day.

Students will have early dismissal Oct. 22 and Feb. 11 for parent-teacher conferences; also Dec. 10 and April 29 for staff development. Jan. 22 and Feb. 26 will be full days off for teachers in-service.

Thanksgiving break will be Nov. 23-27, while holiday break will start with early release on Dec. 23 and extend through Jan. 1. Spring break is March 22-26.

Graduation is May 28.

School will be out May 31 for Memorial Day.

The final day of class is June 4.

BEECHER-DUNBAR-PEMBINE SCHOOL DISTRICT

PEMBINE, Wis. -- The first day of classes for students will be Tuesday, Sept. 1.

An open house will take place Thursday, Aug. 27.

School will be out Sept. 7 for Labor Day.

Teacher in-service days, with no classes for all students, will take place Oct. 2, Nov. 20, Jan. 15, Feb. 26 and April 30. Parent-teacher conferences will be on Oct. 1 and March 4.

Thanksgiving break is Nov. 23-27. Holiday break will be Dec. 23 through Jan 1.

Spring break is set for March 26 through April 2.

Graduation is on May 28.

The final day of class is May 28.

GOODMAN-ARMSTRONG CREEK SCHOOL DISTRICT

GOODMAN, Wis. -- Classes begin Tuesday, Sept. 1.

School will be out Sept. 7 for Labor Day.

Classes will not be in session Oct. 15-16, Nov. 20, Jan 22, Feb. 18-19 and June 3 for in-service days.

Parent-teachers conferences will be Oct. 14 and Feb. 17.

School will be closed Nov. 23-27 for Thanksgiving holiday break. Winter break is set for Dec. 23 through Jan. 1.

Spring break will take place from March 26 through April 2.

Graduation for Goodman-Armstrong Creek seniors will be May 29.

School will be out May 31 for Memorial Day.
