TOWN OF HOMESTEAD, Wis. -- A couple had to be treated for smoke inhalation after being unable to escape a burning home without assistance early Wednesday in Florence County.
A caller told the Florence County Sheriff's Office just before 3 a.m. Wednesday the house in the Town of Homestead was filling with smoke but he could not get his disabled wife out on his own, according to a news release.
A Florence County Sheriff's deputy arrived within minutes and was able to safely carry the disabled woman out of the burning house, the news release states.
Both the man and woman were taken by Florence County EMS to Marshfield Medical Center-Dickinson for treatment.
Severe damage was reported to the second story of the structure, along with water damage throughout the residence, according to the news release.
The Homestead Fire Department was assisted by Aurora, Fence and Florence fire departments. Krist Oil of Florence donated water.
