Florence County Fair to mark America’s 250th anniversary

FLORENCE, Wis. -- The Florence County Fair returns for its 122nd-annual year Friday through Sunday at the fairgrounds just south of Florence.
This year's theme, "Stars, Stripes & County Fair Nights: Celebrating 250 Years of Freedom," recognizes America's 250th anniversary while celebrating the Northwoods roots, community pride, and family fun that have made the Florence County Fair a cherished local tradition, organizers said.
Leading this year's lineup are two of the fair's signature attractions -- the Friday night truck pulls and Saturday noon mud bog. These events continue to draw competitors and spectators from across the Midwest and beyond, making them some of the most anticipated moments of the weekend.
New this year, the Lena Garden Tractor Club will be featured at the fair on Friday, with a tractor pull at 7 p.m. The truck pull will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday as well.
This is just one type of horsepower featured at the fair.
The old-fashioned kind, a crowd favorite at the fair, happens Sunday with both a pony pull and draft horse pull. Those who enjoy the draft horse pull should make plans to come early for the pony pull, scheduled to begin at 1 p.m., with the draft horse pull to follow at 3 p.m.
Saturday features the Mud Bog, with registration from 7 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and runs making the mud fly starting at noon.
Throughout the weekend, visitors can enjoy free bounce houses and inflatables provided by Jake's Jumpers, 1882 Pioneer Games with Flo, local vendors and a variety of fair food.
Additional events include karaoke on Friday night; a Wisconsin Arm Wrestling competition -- open to kids, women, amateurs and professionals -- Saturday, with weigh-in at noon and competition at 1 p.m.; old-fashioned kids' games starting at 2 p.m. Saturday; and a classic car and motorcycle show on Sunday.
Live music has always been a part of the fair. Friday night features the band Victorious. Saturday sees the return of two crowd favorite bands, Horizon from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m., followed at 7 p.m. by Next Myle to close out the fair on Saturday night. Sunday, Lovin' Country will play from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and then again between the pony and draft horse pulls.
The Florence County Fair has always been about bringing people together to celebrate and showcase the many and varied talents of its communities. Along with longtime fair favorite activities and exciting new experiences, fairgoers are encouraged to celebrate America's 250th anniversary by wearing their favorite red, white, and blue attire throughout the weekend. Visitors can also participate in the Red, White & Blue Spirit Contest for a chance to win a special fair prize while showing off their patriotic spirit.
The Florence County Fair Board extends its appreciation to the volunteers, sponsors, local businesses, entertainers and community members whose continued support makes the fair possible each year.
Admission to the fair is $10 per day for ages 5 and older or a weekend pass for $20. All events are free with admission. Jake's Jumpers bounce houses and inflatables are also free with admission.
The Florence County Fair Park is at 5505 County Highway N, just 1/3 of a mile south of U.S. 2 in Florence.
