IRON MOUNTAIN -- Prost! A taste of Germany is coming to Iron Mountain, and it's bringing beer brats, pretzels, decadent desserts and plenty of Gemutlichkeit -- all for a great cause.
A German-themed fundraiser benefiting the "kids" at Holy Spirit Catholic School in Norway is set for Friday at the Sandstone Terrace, 220 Iron Mountain St. Doors open at 3 p.m., with food service beginning at about 4:30 p.m.
Organizer Paula Pieropon Land said the event will continue until 9 p.m. -- or until the food runs out.
Guests can enjoy their meals on the Terrace or order them for takeout.
The authentic menu features grilled Bell's Brewery beer brats with assorted toppings, including homemade sauerkraut; hot German potato salad; rotkohl, or German red cabbage; and pretzel sticks served with beer dip.
And then there's dessert. Three traditional German sweets will be available -- Donauwellen kuchen, a Danube wave cake with chocolate and vanilla cake and cherries; versunken apfelkuchen, or sunken apple cake; and German pecan caramel rolls.
"The entire menu is all homemade dishes," Land said. "Both the food and desserts have received high accolades in the past."
The beer brats and toppings are $8 each; rotkohl will be $4, while all other menu items are $6 each. But a dinner special can be purchased for $18 that includes a brat and two other menu items.
The evening also will feature a Bell's Brewery tap takeover highlighting selections from its Oktoberfest lineup.
Adding to the fun, the local duo Norton & Chartier will play a variety of classic rock acoustic tunes from 7 to 10 p.m.
Volunteers for Holy Spirit Catholic School will sell tickets at the entrance for the school's annual fundraiser raffle. Tickets are $20 each. Based on all 2,000 tickets sold, top prize is $10,000, second $4,000, third $3,000, fourth $2,000 and fifth $1,000.
Land noted that organizers are selling only half as many tickets as in previous years, giving buyers twice the chances of winning. The drawing will take place at 6 p.m. Dec. 1 at the Thirsty Whale in Norway.
T-shirts are being sold at the event for $15. The event also will feature a German-fest-style photo booth.
She encourages the community to come out to support the kids and enjoy a great German-themed meal on the rooftop while listening to live music.
"We're looking forward to seeing everyone and making this year's fundraiser another success," Land said.
