Kingsford home a total loss in fire

KINGSFORD -- A residence at 116 Withworth Ave. in Kingsford was a total loss and neighboring homes were significantly damaged in a fire Tuesday afternoon, according to Kingsford Public Safety Department.

One firefighter received minor injuries and was transported to Marshfield Medical Center-Dickinson for treatment of smoke inhalation, KPS said in a news release.

Firefighters were dispatched at 2:23 p.m. for a reported garage fire and arrived to find the garage and attached home fully engulfed in flames. Officers suppressed the fire but there was significant smoke and water damage to neighboring residences due to their close proximity, KPS said.

Firefighters cleared the scene at 7:30 p.m.

The cause of the fire was unknown and KPS said it would continue to investigate.

Assisting were the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office and dispatch, Breitung Township Fire Department, Integrity Care EMS, DTE Energy, We Energies, Michigan State Police, American Red Cross and DeMuri Excavating.
