Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. today in Michigan's primary election, featuring local millage proposals and contested races for state and federal offices.
Democrats and Republicans will choose nominees for Michigan governor and seats in the U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives.
Voters in the Republican primary in the 38th Michigan Senate District will pick a nominee for the seat currently held by Sen. Ed McBroom, R-Waucedah Township, who is term-limited. The Republican candidates are Beau LaFave of Iron Mountain, a former state representative, and current 108th state Rep. Dave Prestin of Cedar River.
Kyle Blomquist, an 11-year member of the Iron Mountain City Council, is a candidate for the 1st Congressional District seat currently held by U.S. Rep. Jack Bergman, R-Watersmeet. Callie Barr and Wayne Stiles, both of Traverse City, are also Democratic candidates.
Dickinson County proposals include millage renewals for the road commission and the Norway-Vulcan Senior Citizens Center, along with a joint millage in Breen, Felch and West Branch townships for Nordic Ambulance.
The Iron County ballot includes a county-wide millage renewal for advanced life support ambulance services as well as a West Iron County School District sinking fund levy.
