Two rescued after going over waterfall in Gogebic County

WAKEFIELD --Two people had only minor injuries but needed to be rescued Monday after being swept over Rainbow Falls in Gogebic County, according to the sheriff's office.
The Gogebic County Sheriff's deputies began searching the area by Black River Trail about 1:39 p.m. Monday, with witnesses reporting they could hear yelling near Rainbow Falls, the sheriff's office stated. The 40-foot waterfall is along the Black River in the Ottawa National Forest.
"It was determined that one individual attempted to cross the Black River and slipped. When the second attempted to help, the current pulled both individuals over Rainbow Falls," the statement noted.
The Gogebic County Search and Rescue Team was able to hoist both individuals to safety. The sheriff's office did not release names or other details on the two people in the incident.
Other agencies assisting at the site included Michigan State Police from the Wakefield post, the U.S. Forest Service law enforcement, the Ironwood Township Fire Department and Beacon Ambulance.
