CRIVITZ, Wis. -- The Friends of Camp Bird invite the public to celebrate one of Marinette County's most historic parks at the upcoming Camp Bird Appreciation Day on Saturday.
The event will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Camp Bird Youth Center, N8395 Caldron Falls Road in Crivitz.
Serving youth groups and families since 1943, Camp Bird Youth Center is a local landmark known for its rustic charm and natural beauty. The Appreciation Day event is designed to welcome back former campers, staff, user groups and the general public to experience the camp's unique history and active outdoor environment.
Event highlights will include --
-- Charcoal-grilled cookout: Enjoy a classic Wisconsin hot dog and brat cookout.
-- Historic tours: Explore the camp's historic log cabin buildings.
-- Recreation and trails: Hike the scenic lake trail or play a friendly game of basketball, tetherball or sand volleyball.
-- Relax by the lake: Kick back at the lakefront amphitheater area on Sand Lake.
A special presentation segment will begin at 12:30 p.m. featuring several guest speakers, including state Rep. Jeffrey Mursau, R-Crivitz. They will speak alongside camp user groups to highlight the impact Camp Bird has on the region's youth and the ongoing efforts to support the facility.
Admission to the event is free, though donations are accepted. All proceeds and donations from the cookout go directly toward essential camp maintenance, preservation projects and facility improvements.
"Camp Bird has touched the lives of generations of young people and outdoor enthusiasts in Marinette County and across our state," said Dan Nommensen of the Friends of Camp Bird. "This Appreciation Day is our way of celebrating that rich heritage, showing off the beautiful grounds and raising the vital funds needed to maintain these historic structures. Having our state and county leadership join us underscores just how important this camp remains to our wider community."
While the lakefront area will be open, swimming and boating activities will be closed for this event. Additionally, in accordance with county regulations, pets are not permitted on the camp grounds.
