FLORENCE, Wis. -- A Kingsford man was taken into custody last week and faces drug charges in Florence County in connection with the April death of a Vilas County, Wis., man, according to the Florence County Sheriff's Office.
Mark Allan Johnson II was arrested Aug. 26, Sheriff Teresa Chrisman said Thursday in a news release that lists charges of first degree reckless homicide/delivery of drugs, manufacture/deliver amphetamine and manufacture/delivery of narcotics. Johnson was in the Florence County Jail on a $100,000 bond, according to the sheriff.
The arrest was made after an investigation by the Florence County Sheriff's Office, the Dickinson County KIND drug enforcement team, the Oneida County Sheriff's Office and the Wisconsin Department of Criminal Investigation.
According to the news release, in late afternoon April 10 Florence County dispatch received a 911 call of a male slumped over the driver-side window of his vehicle parked at Vagabond Park in Spread Eagle, Wis.
Upon arrival, deputies administered Narcan along with other life-saving measures but the male -- later identified as John Edwards, 42, of St. Germain, Wis. -- was pronounced dead.
Early indications were Edwards died from an overdose, Chrisman said.
"We are appreciative of the collaborative efforts of all law enforcement involved. Our condolences are with the family and friends of John Edwards," the sheriff said.
"We remind the public that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law," Chrisman said.
