Marquette’s Westwood Mall designated a blighted property

MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP -- The Marquette Township Board has voted to designate the Westwood Mall as a blighted property.
The mall experienced a partial roof cave-in in late February due to snow accumulation.
By designating the property as blighted, the board has opened up the property to development through a brownfield redevelopment financing project.
According to the redevelopment project, which the board also approved Wednesday, the mall at 3020 U.S. 41 West could be demolished by the end of the year. The plan is to demolish a portion of the former structure in order to build a front-facing commercial/retail space, leaving some vacant land available for future redevelopment.
Dunham's, Kohl's and North Iron Church will remain. That project is anticipated to be completed by the end of 2027.
