Motorist hits West Iron school bus

A 27-year-old Iron County woman was treated for injuries after the Saturn Aura she was driving rear-ended a West Iron County Public Schools bus on U.S. 2 near Sunset Lake Road early Monday, according to the Iron County Sheriff’s Office.

The driver of the bus and one student passenger were not injured, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

“Preliminary investigation shows the bus was stopped with the stop arm and flashing red lights activated at the time of the accident,” the news release stated.

Deputies were dispatched to the site at about 7 a.m. and investigation continues. The woman, who was the sole occupant of the car, was transported to Aspirus Iron River Hospital.

Deputies were assisted by West Iron County Fire Department, Iron County Search and Rescue, Aspirus EMS, Iron County Central Dispatch, Iron River Police Department, Michigan State Police accident investigators, and Auto Doc Towing.
