NWS issues frost advisory

1 min read

A frost advisory is in effect for the Dickinson County area from 1 a.m. to 8 a.m. Monday, the National Weather Service said.

Temperatures could dip as the low as 30 degrees and sensitive outdoor plants may be killed if left uncovered, NWS said in an advisory for Ontonagon, Dickinson and southern Houghton counties.

If freezing temperatures are observed locally, it would mark the earliest frost this century, according to NWS data from the Iron Mountain-Kingsford Wastewater Treatment Plant.

In four of the past five years, the first frost hasn’t come until October.

The earliest this century was Sept. 16, 2011. The earliest in records dating to early 1900s was Aug. 26, 1945.
