HUDSON TOWNSHIP -- Two people were injured Saturday morning when a pickup truck collided with a train at a railroad crossing in Mackinac County, according to the Michigan State Police.
Troopers from the MSP post in St. Ignace were called about 9:35 a.m. Saturday to the crash site on Borgstrom Road near Black River Road in Hudson Township, Lt. Ben Eckola, Eighth District public information officer stated in a news release.
The preliminary state police investigation determined the pickup truck disregarded the traffic control device at the railroad crossing and failed to yield to the approaching train, resulting in the collision, Eckola said.
The driver, a 34-year-old Newberry man, and a juvenile passenger were transported by emergency medical personnel to Helen Newberry Joy Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, according to the release.
The train crew was not injured. Names have not been released.
Eckola said alcohol and drugs are not believed to have been factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.
Assisting the state police were the Mackinac County Sheriff's Office, Hendricks Township Fire Department, Hudson Township Fire Department, Garfield Township Fire and EMS, Luce County EMS and Chippewa County Central Dispatch.
