Florence program to focus on UP moose

2 min read

FLORENCE, Wis. -- Tiffany Bougie, wildlife biologist, will present a free outdoor education program, "Moose in the U.P.," at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17, in the lower level conference room at the Florence Natural Resource building, 5628 Forestry Drive, on the corner of U.S. 2 and Highway 101/70.

Those who can't attend in person may sign up to attend virtually via Zoom by registering at www.ExploreFlorenceCounty.com -- on the Events page, click on this event and then click on "Register here to attend via Zoom link."

This free program will discuss how the population has grown only 1% to 2% over the past decade. The Michigan Department of Natural Resources began a research project in partnership with Keweenaw Bay Indian Community and Northern Michigan University in 2025. The project included GPS collars, drone technology and field investigations to better understand moose health and reproduction, movement and mortality. Michigan DNR staff will present an overview of the project, discuss preliminary findings after two seasons of fieldwork and take questions.

The Florence County monthly Outdoor Education programs are sponsored by the Friends of the Wild Rivers Interpretive Center and UW-Extension Florence County. This event is open to the public. For more information, contact Joyce Garceau at 715-528-5920 or jgarceau@florencecountywi.gov.
