Iron Mountain scholarship fund receives donations

2 min read

IRON MOUNTAIN -- Several recent donations have been made to the General Scholarship fund at Iron Mountain High School. The graduating Class of 2027 will become the 37th class to be awarded scholarships made possible through the General Scholarship Fund. This scholarship fund was established in 1988, and first awarded in 1990. The General Scholarship has assisted more than 130 graduating seniors by awarding more than $400,000 to date.

IMHS has received a donation from the Dickinson Chapter of the Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel in memory of friend and colleague Susan Veale. In 26 years at Iron Mountain Public schools, Veale taught every elementary grade with the exception of fifth grade before retiring in 2005.

The IMHS Class of 1963 has made a repeat donation of more than $5,000 to the General Scholarship. Iron Mountain High School is grateful for these generous donations from former Mountaineers and the Dickinson County MARSP chapter.

The General Scholarship Fund is unique because any person or company can donate any amount of money to the fund. This scholarship fund continues to grow each year through donations from community members contributing on behalf of their class, parents, siblings, teachers, friends or even a life event. Donations of $100 or more are recognized on engraved display plaques on the General Scholarship Wall, on the main floor of the Iron Mountain High School building.

Those interested in making a tax deductible contribution as a graduating class, as an individual to honor or memorialize someone or as a general donation to this fund can contact the scholarship administrator at the high school by phone at 906-779-2610, ext. 4; or email smithd@imschools.org. Donations can also be mailed to: Scholarship Administrator, Iron Mountain High School, 300 W. B St., Iron Mountain, MI 49801.
