MARQUETTE -- The Beaumier U.P. Heritage Center's planned opening of its Barnes-Hecker Disaster Exhibition has been postponed a week, according to Northern Michigan University.

The opening of "100 Years of Tears: Barnes-Hecker Mining Disaster" originally planned for Oct. 17, will instead take place at 1 p.m. Eastern time Saturday in the Beaumier's gallery, 223 Harden Hall on the NMU campus.

Director and curator Dan Truckey said the center had not received enough of the display panels intended for the exhibit in time for its original opening date, due to supply line issues with printing material.

After its delayed opening, the exhibition will be on display until April 3. It is free and open to the public.

The Beaumier Center's hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and noon to 4 p.m. Saturdays.
