U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., is scheduled to travel to Iron Mountain next week to campaign alongside Democratic Senate hopeful Abdul El-Sayed.

Ocasio-Cortez, who has been open about a potential presidential run, will make stops in three Upper Peninsula cities on El-Sayed's "It Shouldn't Be This Hard" bus tour Thursday, according to a schedule of events shared by El-Sayed's campaign.

The tour will visit Escanaba and Marquette as well as Iron Mountain.

The Iron Mountain event is scheduled to be open to the public at 2 p.m. with reservations required at https://www.mobilize.us/abdulforsenate/event/1055031/.

Election handicapper Cook Political Report rates El-Sayed's Senate race against Republican Mike Rogers a "toss-up."

"Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez has been a beacon in Congress for taking on the powerful on behalf of everyday people," El-Sayed said in a news release announcing the tour. "She's shown all of us what courageous, sharp, values-driven leadership looks like."

El-Sayed said he’s campaigning to ensure "that Michiganders have a senator who is committed to putting money in their pocket, getting money out of politics, and passing Medicare for all."

"Abdul has built a winning coalition with an agenda to bring down costs for Michigan families and I could not be more excited to join him for the final stretch of this race," said Ocasio-Cortez. "Once he's in Washington, I look forward to working with Abdul to guarantee healthcare as a human right for all Americans and to build a politics that is free from the corrupting influence of corporate money."

Rogers, in a debate Thursday with El-Sayed, said Medicare for all would force people off private insurance they might prefer while causing taxes to rise.

Ocasio-Cortez, appearing with El-Sayed at a New York City fundraiser last week, cast his campaign as a broader test for the progressive movement, according to the Associated Press. "If Abdul can win in Michigan, anybody can win anywhere," Ocasio-Cortez told the audience.

Michigan's Senate race could help determine partisan control of the chamber. Sen. Gary Peters, a Democrat, is not seeking re-election.
