NEGAUNEE -- One man is dead and another has severe burns after a house fire Monday night in Negaunee Township.
Troopers from the Michigan State Police Negaunee Post arrived about 8:40 p.m. Eastern time Monday to find the residence on M-35 in Negaunee Township engulfed in flames, according to an MSP news release.
A resident who had made it out told troopers another man remained inside the home. Troopers attempted to enter but were unable to do so because of the heavy smoke and flames.
After the Negaunee Township Fire Department extinguished the fire, they were able to find the body of the 67-year-old man, according to the MSP.
The man who escaped the fire is being treated for severe burns at a local hospital. No information was provided on his condition.
MSP did not release the names of the deceased or the injured man. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
