Upcoming blood donation opportunities available

MARQUETTE -- The American Red Cross urges people of all blood types to make an appointment to give blood or platelets now to help ensure patients continue to receive the care they need.

Local blood drives are planned in Dickinson and Iron counties.

The first will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday at Christ United Methodist Church, 20 S. Fifth St. in Crystal Falls.

The VFW in Iron River will host a blood drive from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, at 94 E. Genesee St.

In Kingsford, a blood drive will take place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13, at the First Presbyterian Church, 395 Hamilton Ave.; and another from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20, at the Kingsford Maranatha Assembly of God, 9920 S. Carpenter Ave.

A blood donor card or driver's license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age in most states, 16 with parental consent where allowed by state law; weigh at least 110 pounds; and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.
