We Energies to conduct annual hydroelectric dam siren tests Wednesday

1 min read

IRON MOUNTAIN -- We Energies will conduct annual tests of emergency sirens at four hydroelectric dams Wednesday.

The brief siren activations are only tests, and community members do not need to evacuate or take any other action. People near the dams may hear the sirens between 8:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. If testing cannot be completed Wednesday, it will be rescheduled for Thursday.

Four We Energies dams have flood emergency warning systems. Annual testing helps ensure the sirens operate properly in an emergency. The dams are: Michigamme Falls, Twin Falls, Big Quinnesec and White Rapids.

In an actual emergency, the sirens would sound continuously and the public should evacuate to higher ground and monitor local news outlets for instructions.

We Energies coordinates with local emergency officials to help protect the community in the unlikely event of a dam failure. Community members with questions about the test can contact We Energies customer service at 800-242-9137.

Starting at /week.
