Daniel Vignali
APPLETON, Wis. – Daniel L. Vignali, 67, of Appleton and formerly of Iron River, passed away Monday, Jan. 4, 2016.
He was born Dec. 12, 1948, in Phelps, Wis., the son of Leo E. and Catherine J. (Myszka) Vignali. He attended the Phelps Schools, graduating from Phelps High School with the class of 1967.
He was a U.S. Air Force veteran. While in the service in Okinawa, he met the love of his life and became engaged on Dec. 4, 1969. Daniel married the former Sandra L. Stafford on Dec. 12, 1970, at the old St. Mary Catholic Church of Phelps, and the couple celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary in 2015.
Daniel was employed as a foreman for We Energies for 38 years. He also worked at and served on the board of St. Vincent de Paul and participated in the re-opening of the new store.
He was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church of Caspian. He was in the first graduating class of the Eucharist Ministry School for the Diocese of Marquette and served in his parish of St. Agnes and St. Cecilia. He was also a member of American Legion Alfred Branchini Post 17 of Iron River, and auxiliary member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Ottawa Post 3134 of Iron River.
An avid outdoorsman, he loved to hunt and fish, and especially enjoyed hunting out west with his sons. He loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Daniel is survived by his wife, Sandra; sons, Mark Vignali of Appleton, and his sons, C.J. and Conor, and granddaughter, Arria, Chris (Liz) Vignali of Destin Fla., and their daughters, Olivia and Gianna, Greg (Frdrique) Vignali of Appleton, and their daughters, Dominique and Gabrielle, and Kenn (Samantha) MacDonald of Milwaukee; his mother, Catherine Vignali of Caspian; sisters, Susan Ehrich of Chandler, Ariz., Linda (Eric) Deksnis of Gladstone, Debbie (Willie) Ketchum of Caspian, and Kim (Michael) Sagen of Oswego, Ill.; and many nieces, nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his father, Leo.
Visitation will be held today from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 7, at 3:30 p.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Caspian, with Rev. Gregory Veneklase to offer the Mass of Christian Burial. The West Side Veterans will accord military rites following the service.
Pallbearers will be Bruce Callovi, Richard Wilken, Scott Patterson, Jerry Weeks, Bill Trotter, Ronald Lewis, and Rudy Gonzalez.
Interment will be in Holy Angels Catholic Cemetery in Appleton.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry in Iron River.
