GOODMAN Wis. — Helen (Frydrych) Stec, 87, a resident of Goodman, passed away peacefully in her sleep Friday morning, Feb. 3, 2017, at Maryhill Manor in Niagara, Wis. Helen was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Joseph “Joe” Stec on June 26, 2002.

Helen was born Jan. 12, 1930, to Frank and Mary (Rygeil) Frydrych in the family home in Armstrong Creek, Wis. Helen and Joe married Sept. 29, 1951, at St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church in Armstrong Creek, and the couple made their home in Goodman where they raised six children.

Helen was a member of St. Joan of Arc Parish in Goodman and was a member of the Christian Mothers. Helen was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign War (VFW) Ladies Auxiliary.

She enjoyed canning fresh fruits and vegetables and was known for her dill pickles and sauerkraut. She also enjoyed making homemade breads. Helen’s biggest enjoyment was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandsons.

She was employed at the Goodman Veneer Mill for more than 20 years.

Helen is survived by her six children: Mary (John) Pawlowski of Armstrong Creek, Richard Stec of Homestead, Wis., Marlene Stec of Goodman, Robert (Dawn) Stec of Goodman, John (Sandy) Stec of Goodman, and Michael (Mary) Stec of Goodman; five grandchildren: Valerie (Korey) Carlson of Goodman, Brian (Christine) Stec of Niagara, Kristi Stec of Niagara, Daniel “Danny” Stec of Freedom, Wis., and Joseph “Joey” Stec of Goodman; two great-grandsons: Grayson Stec and James (Gramma’s Jimmy) Carlson; and also honorary granddaughter, Michelle Janczewski.

Helen is further survived by her sister, Ann Vasallo of Apple Valley, Calif; brother-in-law, Stanley Stec of Milwaukee; and sister-in-law, Bernice (Stec) Kryzanowski of Milwaukee.

She was preceded in death by four sisters: Lottie, Bertha, Josephine, and Stella; and six brothers: Walter, Stanley, Joseph, Andrew, Charles and Victor.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Goodman, with Father John Hephner officiating.

Family and friends may call today at the church from 5 p.m. until the prayer service at 7 p.m.; and again on Tuesday, from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass at the church.

Interment will be in the Glenwood Cemetery in Goodman.
