HERMANSVILLE — Gloria Bommarito Greene, 92, passed away on Monday, Jan. 29, 2018, at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility, in Powers.

Gloria was born on July 7, 1925, in Kalamazoo, moving with her parents Ethel and Clarence Bradford, and her sister Virginia to Detroit when she was only two years old.

During World War II, Gloria enrolled in the Army Nurse Cadet program, earning her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing at Wayne State University. Gloria valued higher education, going on to become a licensed certified registered nurse anesthetist. She dedicated herself to that profession for over 38 years in the city of Detroit.

In 1959, Gloria married the love of her life, Samuel Salvatore Bommarito (deceased in 1975), making their home in the Detroit area. Together they enjoyed Detroit, spending time downtown at Tiger games, Greektown, Eastern Market and Belle Isle. Gloria enjoyed having fun! She loved a good martini, traveling and dancing.

Gloria retired to a hobby farm in Hermansville in 1990, where she enjoyed country life, raising chickens, and the Northwoods. During her retirement, she was surrounded by her grandchildren as they grew up and young neighbors growing up along County Road 579, including the Sworski, Vaver, Girardi and Gearhart children.

Gloria is survived by her two daughters, Nancy Bommarito Finch, Deborah Lee Bommarito, six grandchildren, Leigh Whittet (Matt), Kathleen Linehan (David), Samantha Gallimore (Jesse), Abigail Finch (Dusty Otto), Alex Finch and Ian Finch. She was also blessed with six great-grandchildren.

The family expresses their sincere gratitude to the professionals at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility, Arthur, her nurse, and to the countless angels that cared for mom every day.

A private celebration of Gloria’s life will take place in the spring in the Village of Schoolcraft in lower Michigan.
