George O. Rowell Sr.

KINGSFORD — George O. Rowell Sr., 79, of Kingsford, passed away Thursday, Feb. 1, 2018, in Mahtomedi, Minn.

He was born June 3, 1938, in Iron Mountain, son of the late Hosea and Edith (Munday) Rowell. George married Audrey Schneider on March 19, 1960, and they spent more than 53 wonderful years together. Audrey preceded George in death on April 4, 2013.

George was employed at Dickinson Homes in Kingsford for more than 30 years, retiring in 2000. He was an avid outdoorsman and especially enjoyed hunting, fishing and going to camp. More than anything, George loved spending time with his family.

George is survived by a son, George (Netta) Rowell Jr. of Norway; a daughter, Laurna (John) Bednarz of Iron Mountain; brothers, Donald (Mary) Rowell and Winfield (Denise) Rowell, both of Iron Mountain; sisters, Ellen Kuhl of Flushing, Mich., Melva Frey of Iron Mountain and June (Phil) Dorfler of Kingsford; four very loved grandchildren, Kristin (Gerry) Martin, Amanda (Arron Anziano) Rowell, Jessica (Tony) Body, and Dawn (Brad) Hazelwood; loving great-grandchildren, Eli, Luke, Mariah, Abby, Alyssa, Javon, Jermiah, Julius, Trinity, Tyler and Sadie; one great-great-grandson, Zayden; a special niece, Missy Schneider; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, including special friend, Jack O’Brion, and special lady friend, Nancy Reis.

In addition to his wife and parents, George was preceded in death by a son, David Rowell; two brothers, Hosea Rowell and Loren Ausley; brothers-in-law, Roger Frey and Fritz Kuhl; and a sister-in-law, Peggy Rowell.

Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9 at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. Memorial services will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Jack O’Brion will officiate.

Burial will be in the Quinnesec Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers a memorial will be established in his memory.
