ALVIN, Wis. — Elva E. Puckett, 85, of Alvin, passed away on Sunday, March 11, 2018, at her home.

Elva was born July 16, 1932, in Alvin, daughter of the late Byrd and Mary (Morrison) Day. She attended the Elvoy School.

Elva married Herman Puckett on May 22, 1948, in Alvin, and returned to the area to make their home following Herman’s retirement in 1984. The couple celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary in 2011, before Herman preceded her in death on Dec. 21 of that same year.

She was employed as a supervisor in a retirement home for more than 25 years, retiring in 1984.

She was a member of the Little White Church in Alvin and played the organ there for many years. Elva enjoyed crocheting, knitting, sewing and quilting.

Elva is survived by her daughters, Kathy (Jeffrey) Hammelev of Bristol, Wis., and Patricia (David) Young of Florence, Wis.; sisters, Donna Jean (Carlos) Bolyard of Berlin, Wis., and Lucille Clark of Neenah, Wis.; three grandchildren, Amy Hansen of Kenosha, Wis., Jason (Brandi Mieczkowski) Schneider of Kenosha and Tracie (Brett) Drew of Muskego, Wis.; four great-grandchildren, Tyler and Madison Hansen, Indi Grace Schneider and Shelby Drew; as well as nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, Elva was preceded in death by her brothers, Herman, Arthur, Daniel and John Day; and sisters, Grace Vasser, Nellie Cornwell, Rhett Boggs, Ruth Williams, Mary Edna Puckett and Anne Puckett.

Visitation will be 9 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday, March 17 at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River.

Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m., with Pastor Della Rosenow to officiate.

Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Alvin, in the spring.
