Helen M. Osterberg

She was born on July 29, 1932, in Iron Mountain, daughter of John and Ruth (Peterson) Carlson. She attended Iron Mountain schools, graduating from Iron Mountain High School in 1950.

Helen married Bruce Osterberg on Dec 26, 1955, at the Aurora Free Church and together they spent nearly 58 wonderful years together before Bruce’s death in 2013.

She received a nursing degree from Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago in 1953 and was a nurse at the Dickinson County Memorial Hospital for many years, retiring in 1992.

Helen was a wonderful cook and did a lot of sewing and knitting and handwork. Helen was a longtime member of the First Covenant Church of Iron Mountain.

Helen is survived by her four children, Mark (Julie) Osterberg of Marana, Ariz., Doug (Laurie) Osterberg of Menasha, Wis., Judy (Dan) Carlson of Bloomfield, N.Y. and Steve (Cathy) Osterberg of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; grandchildren, Britt (Christian Felix), David, Kirsten (Robert Hasler), Erik, Paul (Danica Carlson), Steven, Nathan, Heather, Peter and Maggie; great-grandchildren, Shea, Paige, Lauren, Grant; siblings Rose (Frank) Rhodes, June (Bert) Carlson, Paul Carlson, Larry Carlson, and Barb (Kevin) Parker.

Besides her parents and husband, Helen was preceded in death by a brother, Leonard, and daughter-in-law, Sarah.

Visitation will be held on Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Aurora Free Church.

Memorial services will follow at 11 a.m. at the church. Rev. Karl Utzat will officiate.

Burial will be in the Homestead-Aurora Cemetery.

Helen’s grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
