Susan Schiavo

AMASA — Susan A. Schiavo, 75, of the Amasa area, passed away on Monday, Feb. 26, 2018, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on Dec. 8, 1942 in Stambaugh, daughter of the late Eino M. and Lula E. (Koivisto) Ketola. She attended school in Amasa, graduating from Amasa High School in 1961.

Susan married Larry Schiavo on July 21, 1962, at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Amasa, and they spent nearly 56 wonderful years together. She was a lifelong resident of the area.

Susan was a lifelong and faithful member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Amasa. First and foremost, Susan was a wonderful wife and mother, spending her days caring for her family and her home. Through the years she worked for the co-op in Amasa and then at Angeli’s Market in Iron River. In her free time she enjoyed cross country skiing, skating and reading. More than anything, Susan loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She also loved time spent at camp.

Susan is survived by her loving Husband, Larry Schiavo of Crystal Falls; her children, Tim Schiavo of Garden Grove, Calif., Tony (Carol) Schiavo, and their children, Maria, Nick, and Sam all of Sterling, Mich., and Lisa (Rich) Santi, and children, Toni and Paul of Crystal Falls; her siblings, Dave (Geri) Ketola of Crystal Falls, Jim (Betty) Ketola of Amasa, Jerry (Elaine) Ketola of Little Suamico, Wis., Linda Besiak of Amasa, and Phil (Peggy) Ketola of Crystal Falls; sister-in-law, Bonnie Ketola of Amasa. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Susan was preceded in death by her parents, Eino and Lula Ketola; a brother, Robert “Bub” Ketola; father- and mother-in-law, John and Katherine Schiavo; brothers-in-law, Barry Besiak, Donald Schiavo, David Sandri and Charlie Froblom; sister-in-law, Rosemary Froblom; and a nephew, Tom Ketola.

Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, March 3 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Amasa. The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. at the church. Rev. Micheal Laakko will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in her memory.
