NORWAY — Robert “Bob” Earl Johnson, 90, of Norway, died Friday, April 20, 2018, at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay, Wis.

He was born on July 6, 1927 in Norway, the son of the late Einer and Bernice (Gustafson) Johnson.

Bob served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He married Verna Schindler on March 27, 1948, in St. Stephens Church in Loretto. She preceded him in death on July 9, 2013.

Bob worked for the DNR in the fire division until his retirement.

Bob was the president of the Curtis J. Brackett Memorial Foundation, and was very active in the community, including in Norway Area Little League, Marion Park, Knights Kingdom and the Norway-Vulcan Senior Center. He was honored as Friend of Norway and was involved in many other community activities.

He enjoyed hunting, ice fishing and being outdoors.

Bob is survived by his sons, Bobby (June) Johnson of England, Terry (Lynda) Johnson of Waucedah, Leonard Johnson of Vulcan and Jay (Raylene) Johnson of Vulcan; daughter, Lynn (Jim) Gironimi of Norway; son-in-law, Dave Cheatham of Eagle Pointe, Ore.; 12 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Sally (Robert) Zanoni and Susie (David) Oberthaler; sister-in-law, Marybelle Johnson; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Rosemary Cheatham; brother, Larry Johnson; sisters, Rita Anderson, Lois Whitford, Joan Flink and Nancy Curiel.

Family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 24 at the Ortman Funeral Home in Norway.

Interment will be held at a later date at the Norway Township Cemetery.
