Charles J. “Chuck” Smeester

KINGSFORD — Charles J. “Chuck” Smeester, 92, resident of ManorCare Health Services in Kingsford, is face to face with the Lord Jesus Christ as of Thursday, Aug. 9, 2018.

He was born Sept. 29, 1925, in Amberg, Wis., son of the late Fay and Jule Smeester.

Chuck was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II.

He married Karen Beach on June 3, 1961, in Amberg.

Chuck was a businessman, having owned Smeester Oil Co. in Amberg and Culligan Water Conditioning in Iron Mountain. Later in life he worked for Four Seasons Beer Distributing.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Karen; one son, Fred (Carol) Smeester of Amberg; three daughters, Fonda (Greg) Scoda of Indianapolis, Peggy Gunderson of Indianapolis and Lorelei (Clyde) Walker of Saint Augustine, Fla.; three brothers, Basil, Joseph and Loren; five grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, May; sister, Fay Adora; and brother, William.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. on Sept. 8 at the Amberg Cemetery. Rev. Darryl Ditmer will officiate.

Mullany-McTrusty American Legion Post 428, Amberg, will accord military honors at graveside.

The family would like to thank the dedicated staff at ManorCare as well as Dr. Jacobs for the excellent care given to Chuck.
