Judith Ann Lundamo
KETCHIKAN, ALASKA — Judith Ann “Judi” Alfredson Lundamo, passed away in her home, early on the morning of Dec. 6, 2018, at the age of 72.
Born May 16, 1946, in Iron Mountain, to Iver and Ella Alfredson. Judi grew up on a dairy farm in Aurora, Wis., until she was ten and then moved to a larger dairy farm near Waucedah. She developed strong work ethics early in life, starting with milking cows and doing barn chores at 5 a.m.
She attended Vulcan High School, graduating in 1964, and headed off to Flint, Mich., where she attended Hurley Hospital School of Nursing and became a registered nurse. Judi served as class president and was valedictorian of her graduating class.
After graduating in June 1967, she married her sweetheart the following weekend: July 1, 1967.
Judi and her husband, Ron, moved to Ketchikan in June 1972, where she began her 30-plus years of nursing at the Peace Health Hospital until her retirement. Her nursing career consisted of coronary care, urology, surgery, and supervision.
She was instrumental in starting the nurses’ union and became the first president of Alaska Nurses Association (AaNA) within the Ketchikan collective bargaining unit.
She loved nature, bird watching, gardening, sewing, hiking, fishing and being at the cabin with her family. She was a member of PEO and enjoyed spending time with her Chapter H sisters.
She attended Clover Pass Community Church and loved the people who surrounded her with love and light. Her strong Christian faith gave her strength and peace as she battled Leiomyosarcoma, a rare smooth muscle cancer, for over ten years.
Judi is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Ronald Lundamo; daughter, Rhonda Pickrell (Kristian) of Ketchikan; and son Mark Lundamo (Meredith) of Ketchikan; four grandchildren, Eleanor and Oscar Pickrell, and Madisen and Carter Lundamo, all of Ketchikan.
She is also survived by her siblings, Jerry Alfredson (Jan) of Noblesville, Ind., Joyce Nault of Iron Mountain; Carl Alfredson (Suellen) of Muskegon, Mich., Elliot Alfredson (Amy) of Monroe, Mich., Peter Alfredson (Pam) of Norway; and brother-in-law, Duane Lundamo of Norway.
Donations can be sent in honor of Judi Lundamo to First City Council on Cancer: P.O. Box 8832, Ketchikan, AK 99901.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Alaska Standard Time at Clover Pass Community Church on Saturday, Dec. 15 with a reception immediately following.
